The Expanse (Season 5 Episode 2)

Summary

After winning a battle against a rival group of Belter pirates, Camina discovers the remains of Klaes Ashford’s ship, which she never thought she’d be able to find. Amos returns to Baltimore after a woman named Lydia who took care of him during his younger years dies. He meets Lydia’s boyfriend, Charles, who she started dating later in life. Charles reveals that he will soon have to leave the house in which he spent several years living with Lydia since a man named Erich owns the house and requested that he move after Lydia’s death. On Tycho Station, Holden receives a message from Monica Stuart stating that she has proof that someone is attempting to steal the protomolecule. Holden goes to her room to meet her, but he finds Monica missing and evidence that a fight has taken place in her room. On Mars, Bobbie reveals to Alex that she has been investigating Martian weapons trafficking with the help of Avasarala. Alex offers to talk with Admiral Sauveterre, who they believe may be involved with the trafficking, but Sauveterre refuses to speak with him. He is, however, able to set up a meeting with Lieutenant Babbage who works for Sauveterre. Avasarala expresses her concerns about Belter factions launching an attack on Earth during a diplomatic meeting, but Nancy Gao largely dismisses her concerns. Holden, with the help of Fred Johnson, finds Monica, nearly dead, in a shipping container in Tycho’s cargo bay. Amos confronts Erich, who agrees to let Charles keep the house, but also says that he’ll kill Amos if he is ever seen in Baltimore again.

The Expanse (Season 5 Episode 3)

Summary

Camina and her fellow crew members board and salvage Klaes Ashford’s ship. On Tycho, Monica shows Holden and Fred a video of an fight that occurred on Ceres in which Cortazar can be identified. Naomi travels to Pallas Station where she reconnects with Belter friends Cyn and Karal. She asks them to tell Felip that she has arrived in hopes of seeing him. Alex meets with Babbage, who attempts to extract information from him for Sauveterre. On Ashford’s ship, Camina finds a recording that Ashford took moments before his death in which Inaros describes his plan to go after targets bigger than Tycho or Ceres. Camina announces to her crew that she plans to find and attack Inaros. On Tycho, Sakai, the chief engineer, finds the identities of the people who purchased the shipping container in which Monica was discovered, but when Holden goes to confront them, he finds that they have already been killed. On Mars, Alex asks a few questions about Sauveterre at the end of his meeting with Babbage and she starts to become suspicious. While returning to his room on Mars, Alex is attacked by two people who inject him with a drug and ask why he wants information about Sauveterre. Under the influence of the drug, Alex reveals that he is trying to learn about weapons trafficking, but Bobbie enters the room and overpowers the two attackers before they are able to kill Alex or leave with the information. Alex tells Bobbie that Babbage will be leaving the next day on a ship called the Barkeith and they plan to follow it in the Razorback. Camina is approached by fellow crew member Oksana who tells her that there are better ways to grieve Ashford’s death than to look for violence. After the two make out, Camina sends the recording she found in Ashford’s ship to Fred and tells him that, though she hopes the information can help Belters, this is not her fight. Naomi’s meeting with Felip goes badly, as he is angry at her for abandoning him. Fred discovers that the ship scheduled to pick up the container in which Monica was hidden will soon arrive at Tycho and decides to wait for them to arrive. On Pallas Station, Naomi is ambushed by Cyn, Karal, and Felip, who wields an electric shock gun. The episode concludes with one of Inaros’ asteroids, which he coated in stealth technology, colliding with Earth.
