PlayStation fans are organizing a seven-day “PS5 Blackout” from August 23–30, asking players to sign out, leave their consoles offline, and avoid PlayStation purchases. The protest targets Sony’s reported plan to stop producing new physical PlayStation releases beginning in January 2028, alongside broader frustration over price increases, studio closures, and the industry’s continued shift away from physical ownership. A related “Don’t Kill the Disc” petition has attracted hundreds of thousands of supporters.
